She just looks like the most miserable person you can imagine. I bet if you were forced to do a cross country road trip with her you’d make it about two hours before you got out and started hitchhiking

I was in a discussion where another student argued, “Everything is cyclical, we’ve seen all of this before in human history.” His point was that we may be exaggerating the current state of affairs simply because we’re the ones living through it. I disagreed. I said, no—I think this is different.

This isn’t just another cycle. It’s an escape from sanity. In the past, there may have been dissidents within the academy. Now, the academy doesn’t just tolerate dissidents—it manufactures them de rigueur.

When I read this: "Just think it—and it is so," I immediately wondered if Descartes bears some blame for the origin of this ideology when he tried to prove the existence of reality by asserting, cogito ergo sum?

In your piece, you note that this faux intellectual grew up in a Jewish home. Her ideas, however, are exceedingly contrary to what Jewish tradition says. (I not only grew up in a Jewish home but have gone to a traditional synagogue run by the Chabad-Lubavitch movement for more than twenty years.)
