Wall Street Journal Rankings Destroy ASU
Even while ASU boasts it is in the top 15 universities for protecting free speech according to FIRE, the Wall Street Journal gives it a disastrous ranking. I want to remind you that the top 15 number is misleading as well and I have a previous post on the real numbers FIRE provided which aren’t good for ASU.
Below is the link to the article from the Wall Street Journal. ASU had the abysmal ranking of 252nd. Its terrible score is party due to two of the most important things for choosing a college, graduation rate and salary impact.
In other words, ASU can proclaim it is the largest state university in the country, but its graduation rates are far behind other schools.
And ASU can try to convince parents and students that it will help graduates get a better job but the statistics show otherwise. And that is really the last line of sales that ASU humanities degrees have. They can no longer tell students they will learn about the true, the good, and the beautiful. Instead, you will find professors in my school begging students to enroll by promising them that businesses love to hire humanities majors. The numbers don’t add up.
I believe I can explain in a paragraph or less why ASU is facing these terrible rankings. But I’m not going to give out free expert advice. My colleagues think it is because they aren’t offering enough classes on decolonization so I’m going let them go with that while I sit back and enjoy the show. Popcorn?
