The solution to the problems at ASU, from required “inclusive communities” training to events about the benefits of witchcraft and polyamory, to an Honors College that teaches the John Money sex philosophy, to faculty meetings with land acknowledgemetns and privilege repentance sessions, is very simple. Stop it. Stop doing the thing that causes you so many problems. That’s a line from the psychology humor of Bob Newhart.
But seriously, stop it. The following steps could resolve all such problems. I will dedicate myself to seeing that these steps are indeed taken at ASU.
Remove politicization from faculty meetings. We are there to do faculty business not to be forced to hear someone’s land ownership theory.
Prevent professors from using their classroom to promote their personal lifestyle opinions. A professor should not teach their personal opinions about sex, witchcraft, polyamory, trans philosophy, “whiteness,” or “decolonizing” as if these are ASU’s official position or as if they are the truth of the matter.
ASU’s goal of including everyone should not be hijacked by racial discrimination. We can include everyone without also discriminating against people for “the whiteness.” The same is true for sex/gender.
None of those points should be controversial. But because the abuses have become so great within the classroom and by administrators pushing their “anti-racism” racial discrimination, ASU needs oversight. We need someone high-up at ASU to say, “Enough is enough,” or someone in ABOR to say, “Stop doing that.” The professors and administrators who are using ASU for their own personal political and sexual agenda cannot be trusted to self-govern.
