Are you welcomed at this ASU event if you are not in a DEI identity group?
are they bringing back discrimination?
ASU has no lack of DEI events. And their intent is clear. Or so they tell us twice in the conference description pictured below. ASU has an upcoming conference on DEI (and now Belonging has been added). Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging can all sound great, so what is going on? This is the DEI system:
The conspiracy theory:
All events in American history must be understood as white men (usually Christians) oppressing all other groups.
The problem:
Material differences between identity groups because of this oppression.
The solution:
Go beyond multiculturalism to mandating discrimination against white men (and probably Christians) in favor of these identity groups by giving them more of a “voice.” Require “allyship,” meaning accepting the assumptions of this philosophy of life.
Assumptions:
Material differences are proof of past oppression and can only be explained by oppression.
Humans should be divided into these identity groups.
Our greatest good as humans is material.
The truth or falsehood of what is said does not matter. All that matters is having a “voice” to express “your truth.”
One thing you will find absent from the list of accepted identities is viewpoint diversity. If a viewpoint questions this conspiracy and its religious assumptions, it is not welcomed as an underrepresented group. You will notice they only welcome those who they have defined as being acceptable.
