The College Fix has a new article exposing the ongoing corruption at ASU. This happened in my own school at ASU. ASU’s official policy is that DEI statements are not used in hiring. But The College Fix shows how they are indeed still used.
How can this be? Professors slip these questions in, knowing they will not get caught. How do they know this? They assume there is no intellectual diversity. They assume everyone agrees to push the same ideology in their classrooms. Even if a question is raised, they can safely assume no one in leadership will do anything about it.
This particular question links DEI to ASU’s charter values. That means the writer of the question assumes that DEI is necessarily linked to all that ASU does. The Goldwater Institute was involved with getting ASU to stop using DEI in the classroom and they are were interviewed for this article.
What will happen? It is now a very public problem for ASU. Parents, students, legislators, donors, and pastors keep a close eye on how ASU handles this. Will they continue to discriminate against people based on race, politics, and religion? Or will ASU live up to its claim to be a university for all?
I have also noticed that data bases used for research are quite biased. Articles that are at the forefront of most data bases lean very much in a DEI and “progressive” manner. For example, I was doing a required research paper on the fiscal policy in the US, and I was hard pressed to find an article that didn’t condemn Trump or push climate change, DEI rhetoric, and other progressive anti-American sentiments.
