As you watch rioters waving Mexican and Palestinian flags set cars on fire in Los Angeles, you’re thinking, “Maybe I won’t send my child to UCLA after all.” But the problem is, you still want your child to get a good “settler-colonialism is evil” education. Your highest hope is that one day your child will be an activist who can join in on these riots—just not until after college.
ASU might just be the option your family should consider. It offers many educational opportunities for the student of settler-colonialism and resistance. For example, a Google search brings up this powerful and enlightening lecture promoted by ASU and sponsored by the Piper Creative Writing Center:
The video description says it will teach students how the United States “stole land from Mexico with this genocidal military establishment.” It states, “The United States was founded as a settler-colonial state embedded in a Constitution that created a framework for the fiscal-military state—that is, a state made for war.”
This matches the content of the required DEI employee training I was made to take called “inclusive communities.”
In other words, the anti-settler, decolonizing philosophy is taught at the Piper Center, paid for by ASU, and no alternative voice is heard. In fact, look at how the Piper Center describes itself:
Its entire mission is linked to this message.
ASU and the Piper Center might claim that they do not endorse the message of guest speakers. But that would sound far-fetched—especially given the stated mission of the Piper Center and the complete absence of alternative voices. After all, I happen to be something of a creative writer myself and am available to give a talk on the greatness of the United States.
And so, if you are staring to reconsider UCLA and want a safer space for your children to learn to be advocates of resistance to the United States then ASU’s Piper Center could be just the place for you.
Now to be serious: Arizona legislators, ASU is free to teach what it wants but you are free to not give them our money to do it. Demand accountability of ASU for promoting the settler-colonizer narrative.
Thank you Dr. Owen for taking a bold stance by simply stating what is true and having no fear of them. There is no political solution to these problems which, at core, are the results of decades of Americans drifting away from the very biblical principles of subsidiarity and personal responsibility that established America.
MAGA can't solve it because the whole movement is blinded by the idolatry of civil religion, and the Left is no different. So we see two opposing tribes battling in the public square about what OUGHT to be, yet neither can defend their movement beyond the finite standard of state or social justice. Both have become dangerous because of their commitment to defend their idols by any means necessary.
What seems to always be missing from the mainstream analysis of these events is a solution beyond more appeals to power or the angry resentment of those in power. This is why your work here is so important. The Christian worldview is the only one appealing to the One who is the solution to the real problem, which is the fallen heart, mind, body, and soul of mankind.
The Constitution is neither inspired nor infallible, likewise, neither are Marx, Fanon, or Freire. Christians have the solution to the confusion and resentment in the world, and it is in our faithful witness and bold speaking of truth.
Our freedom is found only Christ, and for a Christian American, our liberty is only limited by our willingness to boldly exert the rights endowed to us by God always willing to accept the consequences. As your bothers and sisters, we join you in that faithful effort to be the light of the world, to make disciples of Christ, and to teach them all He has commanded us. Our strength, grounded not in America or any political movement, but in knowing that Christ is with us, even until the end of the age.
Soli Deo Gloria!

I live within the Gadsden Treaty Territory and the Sonoran Desert. These Mexican flag waving rallies have been going on for some time.
This land USED TO belong to Mexico.
