ASU Instructor: Witchcraft, LGBTQ, BLM
I previously posted about how we can learn about ASU by what it includes and what it excludes. ASU News is a useful resource for this. In this case, we have an interview with an ASU Honors Instructor about his research on witchcraft. See my previous post earlier this week for the dilemma he faces.
In this interview section, he discusses his discipline, “Witchcraft and Magic Studies.” I found it interesting that he owns the fact that he and others are reclaiming and celebrating the image of a witch. He then tells us of one activist group (it's always the activists; this is the #1 job listed for graduates of ASU’s Gender Studies) that links BLM, LGBTQ+, and reproductive rights (killing babies through abortion) to the image of the witch.
Before I had read his interview, if I had heard someone link those, I would have thought, “No, that’s just a stereotype.” But then he linked them for us! When someone like this tells you what he teaches to students at ASU, you should believe him.
Next, we will investigate a fatal flaw in his methodology. I’ll also continue to share emails I receive from him to help you understand his thought process.
Parents and students, this is ASU, and more specifically, ASU’s Honors College. Run, don’t walk away.
