ASU hosts Nancy Pelosi and David Axelrod
Last month, ASU hosted an event with David Axelrod and Chris Christie. You may remember that Axelrod was a senior advisor to President Obama and that Chris Christie is an outspoken opponent of Donald Trump. This is part of a series that Axelrod has at ASU titled “Democracy at Work.”
This month, ASU will host Nancy Pelosi for an interview with David Axelrod. This is advertised as a special event for students, faculty, and staff only.
ASU claims it is important to consider privilege and bias. Let’s apply those standards to these events. Why is there no similar event at this scale for conservatives? We are headed into a presidential election. Why is the only conservative interviewed (Christie) an opponent of the Republican presidential nominee? And what would the outcry be like if this was reversed? Imagine if a senior advisor to Donald Trump was to hold a series of events at ASU, and there was no similar event for liberals.
This behavior calls into question ASU's supposed commitment to being unbiased and not promoting one political opinion. Should taxpayer money be spent on this?
Parents, students, donors, legislators, and pastors, it is important for you to know what goes on at ASU and the kind of privilege that is given to some political philosophies but denied to others.
