ASU Free Speech Center

ASU has a new Free Speech Center. This is great! Not so much when you hear why we needed one.

This came out of our honors college professors writing a letter (you’ll find it on my Stack if you scroll back) calling Dennis Prager (Jewish) and Robert Kiyosaki (Japanese American) “white nationalists” and asking their dean to prohibit them from speaking at the honors college.

This sparked outrage, ASU lost a valuable donor who had given millions to the honors college, and these professors were a laughing stock.

So ASU did what ASU does. No professor or dean was held accountable. ASU did an investigation of itself and said “we handled it perfectly.” And then they opened this center to cover themselves going forward. This means the next time it comes up, and it will, ASU can say, “our center says all is well.”

You tell me, is this a great step forward?
