ASU Drag Event

No Faculty Protests

On Aug 8th, ASU held an event titled “The History of Drag” that was advertised online and through ASU email. No Barrett faulty protested this event as too divisive or political. In fact, ASU holds many such far-left events throughout the year without any comment from the faculty. Generally, this is because ASU affirms free speech for all different perspectives. But it looks like a double standard when we see the Barrett faculty try to intimidate students away from an event like the “Health, Wealth, and Happiness” one held this spring. And when the Provost tells Ms. Atkinson that she must suffer the consequences for holding a controversial event, how is that to be understood in light of ASU’s free speech policy? Certainly, a Drag event is controversial. How will the Provost respond? What should happen is Ms. Atkinson should be issued an apology and offered her job back without any repercussions.

This specific event was sponsored by ASU’s “Project Humanities.” Can we expect any conservative viewpoints about gender offered by Project Humanities? I haven’t seen any. This should be a reminder to parents and potential students about the homogenous belief system of these humanities faculty.

Parents, students, donors, and legislators, one of the purposes of my substack is to document how many leftist events are held at ASU without any comment from faculty. And as long as ASU is committed to free speech, that is how it should be. But why was that standard not extended to the Lewis Center and Ms. Atkinson? Is this another case of “do as I say and not as I do?” by leftist faculty and administrators?
