The justification the director of my school at ASU gave for rejecting my Introduction to Christianity syllabus (a class I’ve been teaching at ASU for years). An exact quote:
“The syllabus reflects a Christian way of teaching Christianity.”
Let that sink in.
From that line you might think that my syllabus includes an altar call, revival music, a segment from Lewis on “Lord, liar, lunatic, why Jesus is who he said he is.” It has none of that.
My syllabus starts with religious studies methodology, covers the OT and NT, and then church history.
Here are their objections that make this a Christian class: I use the word “Biblical Worldview,” I use the word “Old Testament,” I have too much about “Western Civilization.”
Keep in mind, this is from scholars who say they include every perspective.
Every perspective except the Christian one. But I’ve got that in writing now. It will be a powerful piece of evidence going forward.
