ASU & Pregnant Men
On the heels of a House Education and Workforce Committee hearing on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in medical schools, Rep. Mary Miller (R-Ill.) directly asked the chancellor of UCSF, Dr. Sam Hawgood, whether people other than biological women can have babies. She also challenged the institution’s classroom guides advising the use of the term “pregnant people.”
Hawgood responded that “of course, a vast majority of pregnancies are in women.” He then explained that medical students must be prepared for all types of medical situations, including treating transgender men and nonbinary individuals who can also become pregnant.
That exchange made me wonder whether ASU is able to define the term “woman” and whether ASU’s administrators or professors believe that people who are not biological women can become pregnant.
What I found was the webpage for the ASU Women’s Coalition, which states: “We recognize all intersectionalities and celebrate all women and non-binary individuals.”(link). Does that mean that ASU’s official policy is anyone who says they are a woman is indeed a woman? If so, that would be in violation of federal legal definitions and could place ASU’s federal money in jeopardy.
Is that how it sounds to you? Is ASU teaching its medical students (or any of its students) that people besides biological women can get pregnant?
The video on that webpage talks about the achievements of women at ASU, and the first story really is groundbreaking. It tells the story of a woman who... broke the smoking barrier that allowed only men to smoke at her work.
Wait, I thought smoking was unhealthy. Wouldn’t a workplace that doesn’t let you smoke be a good thing? Shouldn’t the men be the ones complaining and perhaps even taking their pro-male-only-smoking employers to court?
Is envy so powerful that it would drive a person to demand to be allowed to have unhealthy habits just because other people get to have those habits? I suppose that if you don’t have a larger goal or purpose in life, your life could be spent envying anything and everything. Envy is a deadly sin.

It is not possible to reason with people who have no sense of reason. They will not converse with you unless you enter their fantasy world where men become women and women become men simply by saying so.
